Prayer should be a way of life for the believer, because prayer is the vehicle to conversing with our Heavenly Father.
It is spiritual communion with God through what we call the "ACTS" of prayer, which are Adoration, Confessing, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. As believers, we always want to feel free to ask our Father for what we want, but the believer does not want to beg God for anything.
Prayer is any form of communion with God. It is the act of asking or making a petition about a concern. After watching Jesus spend time in prayer, His disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray; every believer should want to know how to pray. Romans 8:26 says "Likewise the spirit helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered."
